SMA hosted a speaker session presented by 1LT Piotr Zagorowski (USARMY 21st TSC) and MAJ Garrett Stotz (USARMY 21st TSC) as a part of its SMA EUCOM Speaker Series. MAJ Stotz first reviewed the 21st Theater Sustainment Command’s (TSC) mission, vision, center of gravity, and mission command structure. Next, 1LT Zagorowski briefly detailed the history of the European operational environment dating back to 1945, highlighting the degree to which the theater was set and utilizing a series of maps to illustrate his main points. MAJ Stotz then spoke about the 21st TSC’s communications strategy, which is used to effectively synchronize and optimize their engagements. 1LT Zagorowski used a matrix to illustrate the strength of the (positive or negative) relationship between every pair of countries in the EUCOM area of responsibility (AOR) based on events that had occurred. He then used the relationship between Russia and Turkey as an example. MAJ Stotz and 1LT Zagorowski discussed a variety of tools that the TSC utilizes, including a card that keeps track of every engagement with General Staff / the National Military Command Center (NMCC) and encourages communication across the various groups, a map of bilateral trade relations, and a map of arms transfers between countries. To conclude the presentation, MAJ Stotz provided an example of one of the TSC’s mission analyses and highlighted the strategic effects of the TSC’s work.
