Speaker Session Preview
SMA hosted a speaker session presented by MAJ Brian Hancock (351 Civil Affairs Command) and SSG Francis Regan (351 Civil Affairs Command) as a part of its SMA General Speaker Series. MAJ Hancock began the presentation by defining key terms and explaining the role of civil affairs in humanitarian aid and disaster relief (HADR). He also outlined some of the academic and technical challenges within Civil Information Management (CIM) and walked through a HADR CIM sample assessment. SSG Regan proceeded to discuss the 351 Civil Affairs Command’s five “sphere project standards” used for assessment, while focusing on water supply as an example. MAJ Hancock unveiled the prototype academic models and technologies that the 351 Civil Affairs Command employed in CIM, as well as the academic findings derived after implementing these new models. SSG Regan explained the All Partners Access Network’s (APAN) primary functions, and MAJ Hancock then reviewed the key findings obtained from utilizing APAN. Ms. Mariel Cooley from APAN provided an update on APAN’s functionality and capabilities to close the presentation.
